Do I have native bees?

  • Appear as mostly black, typically 3-4mm in size.

  • Can be found anywhere dark and enclosed. Commonly found in guttering, pipes, meter boxes, tree branches and stumps.

  • Nests can obstruct drainage or cover metering systems.

  • Entry to nest is usually covered in a hard dark brown resin.

  • Live inside the nest with around 1-15 outside guarding.

  • Also called 'sugarbag bees', 'stingless bees' or 'bush bee'.

  • Sometimes swarm around nests and may look like small flies.

  • Do not sting, but may bite.

We do not remove common honey bees, which are the yellow and black striped bees.
